
May 19, (THEWILL) – The duo of Nollywood actress, Venita Akpofure and reality show star, Yemi Cregx, have emerged as the best dressed at the ninth edition of the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA).
The event kicked off with pomp on Thursday, May 18, at the Balmoral Center, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, with an Opening Night and Cultural Day event.
It was anchored by the duo of Nollywood actress, Nancy Isime and Etim Effiong, who were gorgeously garbed in traditional attires.
It was an evening of glamour, celebration of African art, and mouth-watering delicacies of different ethnic groups.
Cultural troupes were also on standby to entertain guests with the rich cultural heritage of the Yorubas, Benues and Hausas.
In her opening speech, Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head, Content and West Africa Channels at Multichoice Nigeria, stated that the 2023 edition of the AMVCAs is focused on raising the bar when it comes to recognising and rewarding talents in the various aspects of the African film and television industry.
“Last year, we had an eight-day lineup of activities leading to the Award Night. This year will be no different. We have decided to sustain the momentum by bringing back all the activities. The only difference is that they will all take place within three days,” she stated.
The highlight of the evening was a runway show and cultural competition among the best-dressed celebrities at the event.
Celebrities, who were gorgeously garbed in different cultural attires, competed on the runway.
Nollywood actress, Venita Akpofure, won the best-dressed female category, while the best-dressed male category was won by reality show star, Femi Cregx.
Akpofure was garbed in a gorgeous pink floor-sweeping gown representing Urhobo culture while Cregx, the Big Brother Titans ex-housemate, adorned a red Agbada and Sokoto with a matching cap, representing the Yoruba culture.
