June 18, (THEWILL) – Max Verstappen achieved a remarkable feat at the Canadian Grand Prix, securing his 41st Formula One victory and joining the legendary Ayrton Senna in the record books.
The 25-year-old Red Bull driver, marking the team’s 100th F1 win, dominated the race from start to finish, crossing the line 9.570 seconds ahead of Fernando Alonso from Aston Martin, while Lewis Hamilton claimed third place for Mercedes. Verstappen’s triumph at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve was his second win at the venue this year, bringing his overall tally to 41 victories, placing him just behind Alain Prost (51), Sebastian Vettel (53), Michael Schumacher (91), and Hamilton (103), who have all secured multiple championships.
Verstappen expressed his delight with his victory, saying: “It’s amazing to get the team’s 100th win here. I never expected to be on these kind of numbers for myself so we have to just keep enjoying it and working hard, but this is a great day for us.” Red Bull’s dominant performance continued with their eighth victory of the season and a remarkable 10th consecutive win, raising the prospect of an unbeatable campaign.
Fernando Alonso’s podium finish was his sixth of the season, demonstrating his renewed competitiveness at the age of 41. Despite facing brake issues towards the end of the race, Alonso revealed: “We hoped to challenge a bit more, but we lost a place to Lewis at the start and then battled all race. It was like 70 qualifying laps.”
Meanwhile, Hamilton acknowledged the successful weekend for his team, stating, “It’s been a great weekend here for us and we are chipping away and making progress. It’s an honour to be here on the podium with these two world champions.” Charles Leclerc secured fourth place, followed by his Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz, Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull, and an impressive seventh-place finish from Alex Albon in the revamped Williams.
