April 06, (THEWILL) – The music industry was thrown into mourning Wednesday, when veteran Fuji artiste, Alhaji Isiaka Iyanda, professionally known as Easy Sawaba, passed away at the age of 71.
The singer died in the early hours of Wednesday at the University College Hospital, UCH in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he was being treated.
About two weeks ago, he collapsed when he was coming back from a party and he was rushed to the hospital. He was placed on Oxygen at the intensive care unit of the hospital, where he was being treated for stroke until his death.
One of his colleagues, Saheed Osupa, confirmed his death via Instagram. In the post, he stated that Sawaba’s death came as a huge shock to him.
He described his death as an irreparable loss to Fuji music.
“The news of your death came to me as a shock. It is an irreparable loss to Fuji music, however, no one can stop anyone’s journey to the great beyond when time ripens. RIP Alhaji Iyanda Sawaba Ewenla.”
Sawaba had an impressive stint in the Fuji music industry between 1970 and 1980’s, a period when he thrilled his fans with some of his hit projects.
He was signed to Deji Okunowo’s led defunct Sonny Music in 1992. With the record label, he released Message, an album produced by Laolu Ekins.
The singer had over 22 albums in his illustrious career as a Fuji artiste.
