May 22, (THEWILL) – In the main event of UFC Fight Night 206 from the UFC’s Apex Facility in Las Vegas, Ketlen Vieira defeated Holly Holm by split decision.

The main event was always going to be a fight of positioning. Holm controlled Vieira with her clinch game against the fence, while Vieira had many failed takedown attempts.

In the second round, Vieira was able to turn the tide. She used her momentum to force Holm to the ground with a hip throw takedown. The third round showcased a mix of both competitors’ abilities. For extended parts of the round, Holm remained in the clinch, but Vieira delivered several significant strikes.

In the fourth round, Holm’s cardio was on display. While Vieira looked to halt Holm, she kept to her gameplan, landing a front kick to Holm’s face. Holm’s clinch game allowed her to maintain control for the majority of the fifth round, but it was not enough to convince the judges.

Vieira has now defeated two former champions in a succession. She deserves getting a shot at the winner of Julianna Pena and Amanda Nunes after two five-round triumphs over Holm and Miesha Tate.
