December 09, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid forward, Vinicius Junior is making swift progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury, defying initial fears that he could be out until February. Club sources are refusing to rule out potential participation for the 23-year-old Brazilian, in the upcoming Spanish Super Cup in mid-January.
The annual competition gets underway on January 10, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Alongside, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Osasuna and Atlético Madrid, will also be featuring due to their successes last season. Real face rivals Atletico, in the first semi-final, while Barcelona take on Osasuna a day later. The two winning teams will then contest the final on January 14.
Vinicius has already missed 15 games for Real this campaign because of injury worries, including sitting out their last 11 matches with this latest hamstring issue. However, the pacey winger’s recovery is now well ahead of schedule.
In Vinicius’ absence, Real has maintained strong form largely thanks to the continued brilliance of midfielder Jude Bellingham. The 20-year-old England international has netted 15 goals in 17 appearances across all competitions. He memorably scored a last-gasp winner in his first-ever El Clasico against Barcelona.
Bellingham did recently dislocate his shoulder, missing a couple of matches. However, after returning to action, manager Carlo Ancelotti has refused to rule out possible surgery if the problem reoccurs.
