December 4, (THEWILL) – The qualification campaign for the 2024 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco is wrapping up this week, with several decisive matches to determine who books a spot in the tournament. 22 teams across Africa are still battling it out, with some ties evenly poised and others firmly weighted after the first legs.
One of the teams in a very strong position is African women’s football powerhouse Nigeria and their Super Falcons squad. They earned a massive 5-0 victory away against Cape Verde last week. With the second leg happening on Tuesday, the Super Falcons are favourites to book their place in Morocco.
Other notables include defending WAFCON champions South Africa, who face a tense return fixture against Burkina Faso following a 1-1 draw last week. Meanwhile, Algeria holds a commanding 5-1 advantage travelling to Burundi on Monday.
In addition, on Tuesday, nine matches will happen back-to-back, with the likes of Ghana, Tunisia, and Senegal also well-positioned after their initial ties.
By the week’s end, WAFCON’s 24 qualified teams shall be known. Nigeria already has one foot firmly in the door thanks to their Super Falcon’s dominant showing last week. It would take a shock if unimaginable proportions for them not to be Morocco-bound in 2024.
