April 15, (THEWILL) – Aston Villa put in a dominant performance against Newcastle United, winning 3-0 and moving within three points of fifth place in the English Premier League.
Ollie Watkins was the star of the show, setting up Jacob Ramsey for the opener with a cushioned header before scoring two goals himself. It came from a strong start by Villa, with Watkins coming close to scoring in the first minute, and they continued to press throughout the first half.
Ramsey’s goal came after a well-placed header from Watkins, and Villa could have scored more if not for some good saves by Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope. Newcastle struggled to create many chances, with their best effort coming from Alexander Isak’s shot that was saved by Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.
Despite bringing on Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron, they could not find a way back into the game. Watkins scored his second goal of the day to wrap up the victory for Villa.
Villa’s next match is against Brentford on Saturday, while Newcastle’s next match is against Tottenham on Sunday.
