September 02, (THEWILL) – Jarrod Bowen and Kurt Zouma were on target as West Ham United continued their excellent start to the English Premier League season with a 2-1 victory away at Luton Town on Friday night.
The win sent the Hammers to the top of the table as they made it three wins from three. The hosts started brightly with Ross Barkley dragging a volley wide. But it was West Ham who went in front on 37 minutes when Lucas Paqueta picked out Bowen in the box, and he headed home from close range for his third goal of the campaign.
Luton reacted well to going behind and Elijah Adebayo forced a good save from Hammers keeper, Alphonse Areola, just before halftime. The visitors thought they had doubled their advantage early in the second half through Emerson, but his strike was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.
The Hatters continued to push for an equaliser, with Carlton Morris going close for the home side. But West Ham secured the three points in the 85th minute when Zouma powerfully headed in from a James Ward-Prowse corner.
Luton pulled one back deep into stoppage time through Mads Andersen, but it proved only a consolation as David Moyes’ men held on to make it three wins from three and plant themselves at the EPL summit.
