BEVERLY HILLS, July 25 (THEWILL) – The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru, has disclosed why the Federal Government included Enugu State, a non-oil producing state in the presidential initiative on the industrialization of the Niger Delta region.
He based the decision on the fact that Enugu State was blessed with abundance of cashew nuts and other economic fruits needed in the global competitive market.
Uguru, who spoke in Akure, Ondo State, at the stakeholders’ forum to discuss the economic potentials in Niger Delta states, expressed optimism that the move would turn the state into investment destination, boosting its economy and creating job opportunities for the people.
“It will be unwise and unfair to exclude the state in the programme due to delineation. More importantly is that the state is very close to Abia State, which is an oil producing state. It will be easier and beneficial to all,” he said.
The minister maintained that Enugu State had the potentials to benefit from the agricultural programmes that contained in the presidential initiative, which was established to champion the revival of some moribund industries in all the nine states of the Niger Delta.
