March 28, (THEWILL) – American actor Will Smith, went physical on Chris Rock at the OSCARS on Sunday, over a joke on his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
Rock appeared on the stage to present OSCARS documentary feature award and made a joke on Smith’s wife, Jada, being in “G.I Jane” because of her shaved head.
At that moment, Smith walked to the stage and smacked Rock and he went back to his seat and yelled “keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth.”
While receiving his award as the Best Actor for his role in King Richard, the actor apologised to the Academy and his fellow nominees for slapping Chris Rock.
In his tearful acceptance speech, the actor said, “I want to apologise to the Academy. I want to apologise to all my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award. It’s about being a shining light on all my people.”
In a later development, Rock declined to press charges against the actor.
A statement from the Police department said, LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy award program.
The incident involved one individual slapping another. The individual involved has declined to file a police report. If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigation report.
