November 12, (THEWILL) – Newcastle United defeated Chelsea 1-0, thanks to a spectacular goal from Joe Willock, moving Eddie Howe’s team back up to third in the English Premier League.
Willock broke the deadlock in the 67th minute of Saturday’s match at St James’ Park with a beautiful first-time finish into the top-right corner.
Prior to Willock’s moment of brilliance, Newcastle had relied heavily on Nick Pope to be at his best to keep them in the game for long periods as Graham Potter’s side poked around for an opening. Pope denied England teammate Conor Gallagher to keep the scores level.
At the end of the game, tempers flared but Newcastle had seen out the match with their slim lead in tact and therefore secured another statement victory while Chelsea will have to lick their wounds after suffering their third straight league defeat.
On December 27, Chelsea will host Bournemouth in what will be their next game while on December 20, Newcastle will play the Cherries in the EFL Cup competition.
