February 04, (THEWILL) – Wolves stunned Liverpool with a 3-0 victory at Molineux on Saturday.

The hosts capitalised on Liverpool’s poor form and errors in defence with a clinical performance. The first goal came just five minutes into the match when Joel Matip deflected a cross off the post and into the net. The lead was doubled in the 12th minute as Craig Dawson smashed home a loose ball in the box.

Liverpool’s poor play continued in the first half as their forwards, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo, completed just seven accurate passes between them. In the second half, Liverpool tried to rally with some renewed attacking vigour, but their efforts were in vain. Naby Keita’s shot was deflected by Max Kilman and Nunez had a chance to score, but he shot straight at Wolves keeper Jose Sa.

The visitors even asked for a penalty, but their request was turned down. The game was sealed with a clinical counter attack that saw substitute Joao Moutinho send a ball through to Adama Traore, who set up Ruben Neves for the third and final goal.

The result lifted Wolves out of the relegation zone and into 15th place, while Liverpool remained in 10th. Next up for the Reds is a Monday Merseyside derby against an Everton side that is in high spirits after beating EPL leaders Arsenal 1-0 in the early kickoff. Wolves will hope to continue their winning against relegation-threatened Southampton on Saturday.
