Tiger Woods

February 17, (THEWILL) – Golf icon, Tiger Woods, has withdrawn from the 2024 Genesis Invitational halfway through the second round due to sickness, officials confirmed on Friday.

The 15-time major champion was competing in the event that he hosts annually at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades.

Woods teed off as scheduled on the seventh hole of his second round before making the difficult decision to pull out. The 48-year-old was then transported off the course via a golf cart. Sources close to Woods say his early exit was unrelated to previous injuries that he has been managing in recent years.

The star athlete underwent multiple back surgeries and an extensive rehab process after suffering severe leg injuries in a 2021 car accident. He made his incredible comeback at the 2023 Masters Tournament where he competed for all four rounds, walking the entire course.

Tour officials say Woods made the call to protect his health and did not provide further details regarding his illness. The Genesis Invitational will continue as planned through Sunday’s final round at the iconic Riviera Country Club.

Woods remains committed to returning to peak physical condition while balancing his responsibilities as the tournament host.
