Tiger Woods

December 04, (THEWILL) – Tiger Woods bounced back during the third round of the Hero World Challenge on Saturday, carding a 1-under par 71 at Albany Golf Club. After struggling early, the 15-time major champion improved as the round went on, showing positive signs in his latest return from injury.

Woods got off to a shaky start, bogeying the first two holes. However, he rebounded with birdies at the 3rd, 6th, 8th and 9th to make the turn at 2-under 34. On the back nine, Woods continued his up-and-down play, mixing two bogeys and one birdie en route to a 37. His round ended with a missed short par putt at the 18th.

This event marks Woods’ return to competitive golf after withdrawing from The Masters in April due to injuries suffered in his car crash. Throughout the week, Woods has appeared more comfortable walking than in previous comebacks, a testament to his recovery. His well-built upper body has also allowed him to drive the ball long distances, keeping pace with the mostly younger field.

Woods cited that the biggest issue on Thursday was full commitment to shots mentally. Saturday represented progress, as he started poorly but bounced back to birdie 4 of 7 holes mid-round. Improved short-game feel was also evident in several tough bunker shots he pulled off.

While still in pain, Woods continues moving smoothly, with his surgically repaired ankle appearing significantly healthier than earlier this year after a subtalar fusion procedure. With signs of improvement each day, attention now turns to whether Woods can finish strong in Sunday’s final round.
