May 15, (THEWILL) – The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has secured a three-year sponsorship deal with Lagos-based Premium Trust Bank ahead of the World Championships in Budapest.
Nilayo Sports Management signed the deal on behalf of the AFN, with the flagship event set to take place in August. The collaboration aims to transform athletics in Nigeria, according to a statement.
However, the deal has caused infighting within the AFN, with some board members “plotting” against President Tonobok Okowa, over sponsorship money. Bukola Olopade, Chief Executive of Nilayo Sports Management and Chief Marketing Consultant for the AFN, denied any wrongdoing, saying that the money is tied to competitions and not given to individuals.
Premium Trust Bank has shown its commitment to the growth and development of athletics in Nigeria, said the AFN in a statement. “As a forward-thinking and fast-growing brand, we are very confident that this is a collaboration that will transform athletics in Nigeria.”
Olopade also expressed his confidence in the deal, saying: “We signed a three-year-sponsorship pact on behalf of Premium Trust Bank with the AFN.”
