August 01, (THEWILL) – The Netherlands demonstrated their absolute dominance in the Women’s World Cup, as they clinched a spot in the last 16 as group winners, outshining defending champions, the United States.
The Dutch team put on an extraordinary performance, thrashing Vietnam 7-0 in a remarkable match held in Dunedin. Esmee Brugts and Jill Roord both contributed significantly with two goals each, contributing to the biggest victory seen at the Women’s World Cup so far, surpassing Germany’s 6-0 win over Morocco.
Dutch coach, Andries Jonker’s pre-match wish came true, as his team finished at the top of their group, allowing them to avoid facing Group G leaders Sweden in the last 16. Their outstanding display saw them netting four goals within the first 23 minutes, with Brugts scoring a stunning goal that hit the top corner.
