August 07, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has commended the Super Falcons of Nigeria following their elimination from the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament in Australia and New Zealand.
The Super Falcons crashed out at the Women’s World Cup after losing 4-2 via penalty shoot-out against England in the Round of 16 tie on Monday.

Reacting, Tinubu, in a tweet via his Twitter handle after the game, hailed the Super Falcons for their display against England, insisting that they made Nigeria proud on the global stage.
“I must commend the effort by our Super Falcons @NGSuper_Falcons at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“Your brilliant performance did not go unnoticed despite the final outcome. You made Nigeria proud on the global stage!” the tweet read.
Also, former Vice President and Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 Presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, said he never regretted skipping his breakfast for the game.
“We may have lost to England in a penalty shootout, but the @NGSuper_Falcons have every reason to hold their heads high”, Atiku tweeted.
On her part, Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, hailed the Super Falcons for their performance.
Speaking during an interview with NTA, the First Lady said the team gave England a run for their money, and did the country proud.
Her words: “I want to say we are proud of them firstly. We are all here, you can see, we woke up early, Mrs Shettima even got to my office. She was the first person to get here. They played very well, we are proud of them and we gave England a run for their money. So we did well, we are proud of them so we will be waiting to receive them so that’s all we can say for now.
“We will receive them, why not, we have to. We will receive them when they come, they made us proud. The match wasn’t easy for England so it was like a bonus… because they really played very well and they played fine soccer, they did. we are proud of them.”
