April 27, (THEWILL) – Barcelona manager, Xavi Hernandez, has described every away game in La Liga as a “war” following his team’s 2-1 defeat to Rayo Vallecano.
The loss was only the third in the league for Barcelona this season, with goals from Alvaro Garcia and Fran Garcia sealing the victory for the hosts, while Robert Lewandowski scored a late consolation goal for Barcelona.
Following the loss, Xavi addressed his team’s need for intensity and rhythm, emphasising that the league is far from over. “The league is not won. Every game away from home is a war. We can’t lack intensity, rhythm. We can’t afford it,” said Xavi. The Barcelona manager acknowledged that El Rayo deserved their victory, and his team did not play with the necessary intensity required at this level of competition.
Barcelona defender, Ronald Araujo, praised Rayo’s performance and reminded his teammates of their comfortable lead. “We still have an 11-point lead, it’s a good advantage, and now we have two consecutive games at home and we have to win them,” Araujo said.
Barcelona’s next two league matches are at the Camp Nou against Real Betis and Osasuna.
