BEVERLY HILLS, January 19, (THEWILL) – A popular female disc jockey, Obianuju Catherine Udeh aka ‘DJ Switch,’ noted for live streaming the shooting of peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll gate, during the #End SARS protest, has urged the Lagos State Government to rescind its move to auction 88 cars seized from traffic offenders in the state.
THEWILL recalls that the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences (Enforcement Unit) had stated that it obtained an order at the Lagos State Mobile Court to auction 88 forfeited vehicles.
The vehicles were seized for breaking the state’s traffic law on driving against traffic in different parts of the state.
According to Shola Jejeloye, the chairman of the agency, the owners of the vehicles were arraigned before the mobile court and the forfeiture of their vehicles was ordered.
According to Jejeloye, the public auction is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2021.
Reacting to this development, DJ Switch in a video via her Instagram account on Tuesday, lamented the auction and called on the state to either fine the offenders or send them to jail.
The DJ also wondered why other celebrities are not speaking out against the decision.
She said: ”I just read on the news that the Lagos State Environmental Unit through their courts gave the order for peoples cars to be auctioned off, to be sold off.
“What happened to fines? Why can’t you fine these people? Give them something to pay or better still a minimum jail term. A weekend in jail or community service.
“All of a sudden you want to sell off the vehicles.
”I am very certain that a lot of these people that their cars are crying out but nobody knows them. Where are our celebrities?
“The government didn’t even come up with creative ways to distract us and we are distracted.”
