May 31, (THEWILL) – Over twenty young table tennis budding players are expected in Calabar for the third edition of the Offiong Edem Foundation Tournament.
The players who are aged between 7-16 years are expected from Abia, Anambra, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.
Offiong Edem, a Spain-based Nigerian table tennis player disclosed this in Calabar.
Offiong, who is the first Nigerian to win the European Cup Women’s Table Tennis Championship, said the aim is to keep the game alive.
According to her, “We hope to bring the children together to play, enjoy themselves and get some training equipments.
“We have a lot of young players who have no opportunity to play tournaments.
“This tournament is staged every year because I don’t want the game to die so we encourage these players to practice and be in good shape”, she said.
She added that the tournament will run between the 1st to the 3rd of June this year and there will be prizes for every player who gets to the quarter final stage of the tournament.
She said besides a financial package, the players will receive top quality training kits as well as technical advice on table tennis from her.
