March 16, (THEWILL) — The 98th Academy Awards took place on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, the ceremony honored the best films released in 2025.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘One Battle After Another’ emerged as the biggest winner of the night, taking six awards including Best Picture and Best Director.
Ryan Coogler’s vampire thriller ‘Sinners’ won four awards, including Best Cinematography and Best Original Screenplay. Michael B.
Jordan also won Best Actor for his dual role in the film, becoming the sixth Black actor in history to win the Academy Award for Best Actor.
Jessie Buckley won Best Actress for her performance as Agnes in ‘Hamnet.’
Buckley dominated the awards season for the role, also winning at the Golden Globe Awards, Critics’ Choice Awards, Actors Awards and BAFTA Awards.
The ceremony also featured several historic moments. Cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw became the first woman and first woman of color to win Best Cinematography for her work on ‘Sinners’.
The song ‘Golden’ from “KPop Demon Hunters” also made history as the first K-pop song to win Best Original Song at the Oscars.
‘Frankenstein’ earned three Oscars, including Best Costume Design and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
The night also included an emotional ‘In Memoriam’ segment. Billy Crystal paid tribute to filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, who were murdered in their home in December.
The tribute also honored Catherine O’Hara, Diane Ladd, Diane Keaton, and Robert Redford.
