March 21, (THEWILL) – Roma forward, Tammy Abraham, continued his impressive start to life in Serie A when he scored the fastest goal in a Serie A Rome derby, becoming only the second Englishman to do it after Paul Gascoigne.
There were just 56 seconds on the clock in the Sunday match when the England international, bundled the ball in from a yard away to put Roma ahead of Lazio.
Lorenzo Pellegrini had swung a left-wing corner into the area, which hit the crossbar, but the ball rebounded for Abraham to poach and give Jose Mourinho’s side the lead from close range.
By scoring in the derby, Abraham followed in the footsteps of fellow Englishman, Gascoigne, who scored a goal for Lazio in the same match in November 1992.
Abraham, though, added polish to his derby display on Sunday when he volleyed in a second goal from Rick Karsdorp’s cross in the 22nd minute to give Roma a 2-0 lead, bringing his league record to 15 goals this season.
