March 02, (THEWILL) — Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has instructed all hotels in the emirate to extend the stays of guests who are unable to depart due to ongoing travel restrictions.
The directive, issued on February 28, was addressed to hotel general managers across Abu Dhabi.
According to DCT Abu Dhabi, some guests had reached their scheduled check-out dates, but could not travel for reasons beyond their control. Hotels have, therefore, been asked to allow affected guests to remain in their rooms until they are able to leave.
“Pursuant to Law No. 8 of 2018 establishing the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) with a mandate to develop the tourism industry in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi; In light of the current circumstances and given that some guests have reached their check out date but are unable to travel for reasons beyond their control, you are kindly requested to extend their stay until they are able to depart”, the notice read.
The government also confirmed that it will cover the cost of the extended stays.
“The cost of the extended stay will be covered by DCT Abu Dhabi.”
The directive comes as air travel continues to experience significant disruptions across parts of the Middle East following rising military tensions in the region. Recent exchanges between the United States, Israel and Iran, including reported strikes and retaliatory attacks, have led to airspace closures and flight suspensions in several countries, affecting thousands of passengers.
Several airlines have suspended or adjusted their operations, leaving many travellers stranded.
