September 01, (THEWILL) — Nigerian activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has spoken out following the tragic death of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of reality TV star, Phyna.
Ruth passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, a few weeks after a fatal accident involving a Dangote truck, allegedly driven by an unlicenced driver.
In a video shared on Instagram on Sunday, VDM strongly criticised the public, bloggers, and government agencies for their silence while Ruth was hospitalised, contrasting it with the outpouring of attention after her death.
He emphasised that Ruth received minimal attention during the 19 days she was hospitalised following the accident, despite the severity of her condition.
“She was alive for 19 days, yet nobody spoke up. Now that she is gone, everybody wants to talk, post and trend the story. If we had raised the alarm earlier, maybe Dangote group would have been forced to act faster”, he stated.
The activist argued that a stronger public outcry could have compelled the Dangote Group to take more immediate and responsible action.
He also issued a direct condemnation to both the Nigerian government and the Dangote Group, criticising the company’s employment of unlicensed drivers and the authorities’ failure to ensure accountability and protect ordinary Nigerians.
