March 27, (THEWILL) – The Africa Cup of Nations qualification Group J match between Angola and Ghana ended in a 1-1 draw on Monday evening, at the Estádio 11 de Novembro, in Luanda.
Palancas Negras started the game brightly, with Fredy forcing a fine save from Ghana goalkeeper, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, in the opening minutes. However, the Black Stars grew into the game, with Mohammed Kudus looking lively. Yet, despite their efforts, the first half ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
In the second half, the hosts put pressure on the Ghanaian defence, and a foul committed by Daniel Amartey in the box resulted in a penalty, which Lucas Joao converted to give Angola a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute.
Ghana’s coach, Chris Hughton, responded by making several changes, including bringing on Osman Bukari, who scored the equaliser with 18 minutes left. Despite Angola’s efforts to secure a win, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The stalemate means that Ghana maintained their place atop the group standings, one point ahead of second-placed Central African Republic and three points above third-placed Angola.
