SAN FRANCISCO, November 15, (THEWILL) – Chad and Guinea played out a 1-1 draw in the Group A second leg fixture of their qualifying series for the 2022 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) at the Stade Omnisports Idriss Mahamat Ouya in N’Djamena.
THEWILL recalls that Guinea won 1-0 when they met on the Wednesday, November 11. This time around none of either teams could find the telling goal to separate them and had to settle for a share the points at the end.
Guinea took the lead on Sunday through Liverpool’s central midfielder Naby Laye Keita in the 24th minute. The game was poised to go into the break with Guinea one goal up but Chad took their ascendancy in the game to another level when they found the equaliser just before half time.
Ahmat Abdaraman, midfielder for domestic side Renaissance FC N’Djamena found the back of the net to bring the score level in the 45th minute.
There were no further goals for either side for the rest of the game and the most notable incident in the second half was the red card issued against the Chadian midfielder Eric Mbangossoum for a second bookable offence in the 88th minute.
It made for a more concerning end to the game for the Chad side who had to contend with one player less while not conceding and going behind in the final minutes.
The results leave Guinea topping Group A with eight points after four matches. Chad, with only a solitary point are rock bottom. Guinea will fancy their qualifications chances after Sunday’s results. For the rest of the group, Mali is on seven points while Namibia is on three, although these two have one game in hand having only played three matches so far.
