SAN FRANCISCO, November 17, (THEWILL) –Â Host nation Rwanda played out a frustrating goalless draw against visitors Cape Verde at the Stade Nyamirambi in Kigali.
The Amavubi could count themselves fortunate still as they had to play 62 minutes of the match with 10 men after midfielder Ally Niyonzima was sent off in the 28th minute for a second bookable offence.
The hosts have still not managed to find the back of the net during these qualifiers. On Monday, they had to endure another match without a goal to their name, the partnership between Jacques Tuyisenge and Meddie Kagere notwithstanding. It was so frustrating, the duo were substituted early in the second half.
At the end, the two teams settled for the stalemate and the points were shared one apiece. It leaves Rwanda on two points while Cape Verde are on four, same as Mozambique. With two matches remaining and only one slot available, the race is set to go down to the wire.
In the other goalless game, a Group L encounter between Lesotho and Benin, there was no red card and the two sides played out to a deadlock.
The result sees Lesotho’s chances of qualification almost disappear as they remain at bottom of the group with two points while Benin keep their chances alive moving up one point to seven.
