October 23, (THEWILL) — Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been appointed Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, the state government announced on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the government, the appointment is part of efforts to reposition and revitalise Osun State’s sports sector by mobilising private investment and philanthropic support.
Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, who also serves as Commissioner for Sports, confirmed the development, saying Davido was excited about the role and accepted the offer without hesitation.
Adewusi added that the government’s ongoing rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards will be completed in the shortest possible time.
He also revealed plans are underway to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports development and policy implementation across the state.
Speaking further, the deputy governor explained that the newly introduced Sports Trust Fund, chaired by Davido, is expected to draw investments from sports philanthropists and the private sector, both within and outside the state, to ensure long-term financing, improved infrastructure, and enhanced youth engagement in sports.
He expressed optimism that Davido’s involvement would attract substantial funds that will significantly impact the growth of sports in Osun.
Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration reiterated its commitment to making sports a key pillar of youth development and community engagement in Osun.
