February 15, (THEWILL) – Sergio Aguero has discussed how his heart ailment, which prompted him to withdraw from football, is still affecting him.
THEWILL recalls that late in 2021, the Argentine was diagnosed with heart arrhythmia and was told that he would have to retire from the sport after medical evaluations.
He had only joined Barcelona in the summer of 2021 and had only made five appearances for the Blaugrana at the time. The 33-year-old has spoken about how he is still suffering today.
He said: “Now I play soccer and I drown. Sometimes I think if I can run at least one sprint. I feel like my heart just doesn’t work.”
After being substituted with chest problems against Deportivo Alaves in October, Aguero recently spoke about the agonising wait he had to endure to learn whether or not he would have to retire from football.
“The first 15 days [after the Alaves match], I had a terrible time,” he said on his Twitch channel (SLAKUN10): “When it happened, I thought it was nothing and that I was going to be fine, but when I arrived in the hospital and they left me in a small room alone with a lot of monitors around me.
“I realised something was bad. And after two days of being hospitalised, I started to become nervous.”
In November 2021, a month after being diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia, Aguero announced his retirement from football.
