October 13, (THEWILL) — American-Senegalese singer Akon is facing a major legal and financial battle after his wife, Tomeka Thiam, filed for divorce, bringing their 29-year marriage to an end.
Court filings, made on September 11, 2025, just days before their anniversary, show that Tomeka is seeking a €100 million settlement, claiming she played a vital role in helping Akon build his business empire over the years.
In a surprising revelation, court documents indicate that Akon allegedly had only $10,000 in his personal bank account at the time of the filing, despite his public image as a multimillionaire and global entrepreneur.
Reports suggest that a significant portion of his wealth may be held under his mother’s name, a move believed to have been made to complicate the division of assets.
Tomeka is also requesting joint legal custody of their 17-year-old daughter, Journey, while seeking primary physical custody and asking that Akon be denied spousal support.
