January 29, (THEWILL) — The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, has called on women in the state to take an active role in civic and political processes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Lady Obareki made the call on Tuesday at the Urue Offong Oruko Local Government Council Hall during a women sensitisation programme organised by the Office of the First Lady and drew women leaders and stakeholders from across the local government area.
Addressing the gathering, she urged women to mobilise others within their communities to participate in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and to complete the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) e-registration, which is scheduled to end on Friday, January 30, 2026.
She also appealed to party members to revalidate their APC membership and remain active in political activities leading up to 2027, while expressing appreciation to women in Urue Offong Oruko for their support during the 2023 elections.
Lady Obareki conveyed the gratitude of Governor Umo Eno to the people of the area for their electoral support, assuring them that challenges facing the community would be addressed through people-focused projects across the state.
Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, said the governor had demonstrated commitment to the development of Urue Offong Oruko through the execution of key projects, adding that he deserved a second term in office.
Other speakers at the sensitisation programme included the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Inibehe Silas; Chairman of Urue Offong Oruko Local Government Council, Hon. Uno Etim Uno; the member representing Oron Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Martins Esin; and the State House of Assembly member, Hon. Precious Selong.
Following the engagement in Urue Offong Oruko, the sensitisation team proceeded to the Oron Civic Centre in Oron Local Government Area, where discussions focused on voter registration, civic responsibilities and the importance of women forming cooperative societies to access government empowerment programmes.
The Oron engagement, held on January 28, followed earlier sensitisation tours in Abak and Ikot Ekpene, bringing the number of local government areas covered so far to four out of the 31 in Akwa Ibom State.
