January 29, (THEWILL) — Nollywood actress, Angela Okorie, has been remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre in Niger State following her arraignment over alleged cyber-related offences.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed on Wednesday that Okorie was taken into custody by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja.
Filmmaker Ajemba Stanley, popularly known as Stanley Ontop, also confirmed that the actress was charged to court on Wednesday and subsequently remanded.
Okorie was arrested at her residence in Lagos on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, by officers of the Cybercrime Centre. She was taken to Abuja on Wednesday to face the charges after spending the night at the Yaba Panti Police Station.
A Federal High Court in Abuja ordered her remand after she pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge bordering on criminal defamation and cyberstalking.
The court ruled that she should remain in custody pending her bail hearing scheduled for January 30, 2026.
The charges are linked to online posts allegedly made against fellow actress Mercy Johnson Okojie, which the police said violated provisions of the Cybercrime Prohibition and Prevention Act.
Okorie’s counsel told the court that his client was not given sufficient time to prepare her defence and requested her release on administrative bail.
However, the court declined the request and adjourned the matter for a bail hearing.
The police have not released further details on the allegations beyond the court filings.
