February 05, (THEWILL) – Algeria’s Houssem Eddine Mrezigue was named the Best Player of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2022.
The 22-year-old midfielder’s consistent performances as the key player for the Desert Foxes earned him recognition by the Technical Study Group. Throughout the tournament, Mrezigue displayed his box-to-box abilities, orchestrating counterattacks and creating chances for the forwards.
The CR Belouizdad star impressed the CAF technical experts with his intelligent and timely tackles, interceptions and pressure on opponents. Mrezigue was instrumental in ensuring a smooth transition between defence and attack for Algeria while providing support for his teammates. He was named the TotalEnergies Man-of-the-Match in the semi-final against Niger and played an important role in Algeria’s pursuit of their first CHAN title.
Despite falling short in the final, Mrezigue’s exceptional performances were recognised with the ‘Best Player’ award, putting him in good company with past winners such as Morocco’s Soufiane Rahimi (2020) and Nigeria’s Ejike Uzoenyi (2014). Mrezigue’s hard work, dedication and exceptional abilities on the field made him the deserving winner of the award.
Mrezigue’s award will be a testament to his talent and a sign of great things to come for the midfielder.
