American Rapper Gucci Mane

May 28 (THEWILL) — Gucci Mane has opened up about his struggles with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, saying his untreated mental health issues nearly destroyed his life.

The rapper spoke about his experiences during a recent appearance on ABC News’ “Nightline”, where he discussed his 2025 memoir, “Episodes”, in which he first revealed his diagnosis.

“The episode is a brief daze, up to a week, to a month, of me not really thinking rationally, hearing voices and not being myself”, Gucci Mane said. “It’s a total loss of control.”

The rapper, born Radric Davis, said many of his past controversies and legal problems happened while he was going through mental health episodes.

He mentioned a 2013 incident at Atlanta’s Lenox Mall, where he nearly fought a stranger, as part of a downward spiral that lasted for weeks.

Gucci Mane also spoke about his famous ice cream face tattoo, explaining that he got it during a difficult period in his life.

“I really felt numb, and I kept getting tattoos to try to feel something”, he said.

The rapper credited treatment, therapy and his wife, Keyshia Ka’oir, for helping him manage his mental health.

He said he decided to speak publicly about his experiences to help others facing similar struggles.

“I wanted to help people,” he said. “If I can do it, you can do it.”
