April 21, (THEWIL) – Carlo Ancelotti has dismissed rumours of a rift with Real Madrid star forward, Karim Benzema.
After Benzema was substituted in the Champions League match against Chelsea, leaving the field with the score at 1-0, the French forward appeared unhappy with the decision.
However, the Real Madrid manager clarified that Benzema was suffering from discomfort in his foot and stated that there were no issues between the pair.
“Karim is fine, he had this knock and I took him off him because when I think the game is over I think about giving him a little more rest like Kroos and Modric,” Ancelotti told reporters. He also revealed that he had spoken to Benzema about taking minutes off him if necessary, and that it did not make sense for him to continue playing, even with minor discomfort.
Benzema has been plagued with fitness issues this season and has only made 19 appearances in La Liga. However, the 35-year-old remains one of the top strikers in the game and reports suggest that his contract with Real Madrid has been extended by one year, keeping him at the club until 2024.
