April 14, (THEWILL) – Carlo Ancelotti has declared that he will remain the manager of Real Madrid next season “without a doubt” out of respect for his contract, effectively ending speculation linking him to the Brazilian national team.
Despite Brazil’s interest in the Italian coach, Ancelotti has tried to distance himself from leaving the Bernabeu. Real Madrid had reportedly not made a decision on Ancelotti’s future beyond this season, but the manager’s latest quotes suggest that he is not going anywhere.
“I think so,” Ancelotti responded when asked if he still retained the support of the hierarchy in Madrid. “The President has always been very affectionate with me and he still is. We have to look forward. We will be here next season without a doubt because we are going to respect the contract,” Ancelotti stated.
The statement will come as a relief for Real Madrid, who are struggling to compete with Barcelona at the top of La Liga. While Ancelotti also dismissed speculation that he could return to Chelsea to replace Graham Potter, he has previously said that he is proud of the two years he spent at the club.
“I’m sad. I have fantastic memories of my time at the club. I won’t return there. I think [Frank] Lampard will do a very good job,” he said before the recent 2-0 victory over Chelsea.
