April 07, (THEWILL) – Carlo Ancelotti has dismissed any possibility of coaching Barcelona due to his loyalty to Real Madrid, which he referred to as the “best club in the world.”
The 63-year-old has won a La Liga title and two UEFA Champions League trophies with Madrid, leading to rumours that his time at the club may be coming to an end. Ancelotti spoke about this and ruled out ever joining Madrid’s Clasico rivals.
After 1,272 games as a coach, Ancelotti insisted that he did not feel like he had anything to prove. About coaching Barcelona, he replied: “I wouldn’t change myself. You have to respect my personal history and that of the clubs.”
Madrid defeated Barcelona 4-0 in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final, but they currently sit 12 points behind their rivals in La Liga, with little chance of retaining the title.
Ancelotti’s potential exit may be one of several major departures at the club, with the contracts of veterans such as Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Karim Benzema set to expire at the end of the season. The Italian believes the trio will extend their stays, but he remains confident Madrid will continue to enjoy future success even if they do opt to leave.
