October 05, (THEWILL) — Amanda Anisimova claimed the China Open title on Sunday with a 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Linda Noskova in Beijing. The third-seeded American required one hour and 46 minutes to overcome the 26th seed, dropping to the hard court in celebration after sealing the win. The 24-year-old becomes only the third American to lift the trophy in the Chinese capital, following Coco Gauff and Serena Williams.
The match began with a dominant opening set from Anisimova, who swept through without conceding a single game in 23 minutes. Noskova, competing in her first WTA 1000 final, fought back strongly in the second set to level the contest at 5-2 before closing it out. The deciding set remained tight until Anisimova broke for 4-2 and converted her first match point.
This triumph marks Anisimova’s second title of the season and fourth of her career. The world number four has enjoyed a remarkable year, reaching finals at both the US Open and Wimbledon. Only 12 months ago, she sat at 43rd in the rankings, making her rise particularly striking.
Anisimova defeated defending champion Gauff in the semi-finals, winning 6-1, 6-2 in under an hour. Speaking after the final, she thanked her coaches and the Beijing crowd, stating that the team had faced numerous challenges whilst maintaining their enjoyment of the journey. The American expressed excitement about continuing their progress together.
Noskova, who entered the tournament ranked 27th, admitted she had not anticipated reaching the final. Anisimova congratulated her opponent and suggested they would meet in many more finals. The encounter was only the second WTA 1000 final featuring two players born in the 2000s.
