Anthony

August 19, (THEWILL) – Another major obstacle is in the way of Manchester United’s attempts, to bring in quality players into their floundering squad after another bid for the Ajax forward Antony, who had piqued Old Trafford’s interest since Erik Ten Hag arrived, was rejected.

United, made a bid of €80 million (£67.6 million), for the Brazilian on Wednesday, and were not even closer to getting their man. Before the deadline of September 1, the embattled Ten Hag is looking to reinforce his team by reconnecting with an ex-player, whose qualities he appreciates.

Old Trafford officials, however, are not hopeful about luring Antony away from Amsterdam after their latest approach was rejected. United, are hesitant to offer more than this week’s offer because Ajax wants to hold onto the 22-year-old, who has scored 18 goals, in 57 games since signing from Sao Paulo in 2020.

The likelihood of a move for PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo,is seen to be a more favourable alternative. Gakpo had agreed to extend his current contract by one year, to 2026, according to a report earlier this year. However, it was agreed that PSV would cooperate if better offers came in this summer.
