August 19, (THEWILL) – Casemiro, Real Madrid’s iconic defensive midfielder, has been given approval by the La Liga giants to travel to Manchester United on Friday, for a medical.
The Brazilian agreed to sign with United after considering the English club’s offer for three days. As opposed to the initial estimate of €60 million, the transfer cost is apparently closer to €70 million.
A last-ditch effort by Carlo Ancelotti to persuade the midfielder to remain with Real Madrid is still on the plate as the manager considers him still in his plans for the new season.
If the move sails through, the 30-year-old will be uniting with ex-teammates Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo. He will also bring vital experience to a United team that desperately needs leadership and dressing room cohesion.
As part of a truly successful Real Madrid squad, Casemiro has won three La Liga trophies, five UEFA Champions Leagues, and three FIFA Club World Cups in a storied professional career at Madrid.
