April 20, (THEWILL) – Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho has been selected for the preliminary Argentina squad for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, set to begin next month in Argentina.
The young player’s inclusion in the squad could mean he will miss the final weeks of the current club season. Although Garnacho has become a crucial player for United this season, an injury suffered during a recent match against Southampton has kept him out of the game.
United boss, Erik ten Hag, is hopeful that the player will return before the end of the season. However, if Garnacho is selected for the Under-20 World Cup, he will be absent from the club’s remaining fixtures.
The FIFA Under-20 World Cup will start on May 20, which coincides with United’s game against Bournemouth in the English Premier League. The club’s participation in two cup competitions means they could still be playing on May 31 and June 3 if they make it to the finals.
The U-20 tournament was last held in 2019, and England emerged as champions in 2017 with a brilliant outing from Dominic Solanke.
