March 20, (THEWILL) – English Premier League leaders, Arsenal, have been picked as the opponents in the upcoming Major League Soccer All-Star game, according to multiple sources on Sunday evening.
Even though Arsenal’s participation in the match against the MLS All-Stars on July 19 at DC United’s Audi Field in Washington DC has not been officially announced, the sources monitored by THEWILL claim that the decision to select the Gunners has already been made.
Owned by American businessman, Stan Kroenke, who also owns the Colorado Rapids in the Major League Soccer (MLS), Arsenal currently sit at the top of the EPL table, eight points clear of Manchester City, who have a game in hand, with 10 games left to play. DC United’s Head Coach, former England legend, Wayne Rooney, will be the coach of the MLS team and will face his former EPL rivals.
The MLS All-Stars have faced seven different EPL teams since 2005, including Arsenal in 2016, when the Gunners won 2-1 in San Jose, California. The league has experimented with different formats for its all-star game, but this year’s matchup marks a return to the traditional format of the best of MLS taking on a major European club team.
