June 28, (THEWILL) – Arsenal have launched a third bid for West Ham United’s captain, Declan Rice, as they demonstrate their seriousness in getting the midfielder to the Emirates.
The offer, totalling £105m, would not only shatter Arsenal’s previous transfer record, but also set a new benchmark in British football transfer history. This would even surpass the amount Manchester City paid for Jack Grealish from Aston Villa in 2021.
The North London club has been at the forefront of the pursuit for Rice throughout the summer, having had two previous offers, the last one being up to £90m, turned down by West Ham. The Hammers have consistently demanded a sum exceeding £100m throughout the negotiation period. Manchester City also made a £90m bid earlier on Tuesday, which was similarly dismissed by West Ham.
However, the Gunners have now returned with a third bid, and it is understood that they are optimistic about getting an acceptance from their East London neighbours. The proposed deal is structured with a guaranteed £100m, supplemented by an additional £5m in add-ons. Arsenal are moving swiftly to equip Mikel Arteta with the squad he requires for a potential title challenge in 2024. The club is also on the verge of finalising deals for Chelsea’s Kai Havertz and Ajax’s Jurrien Timber, which are likely to cost in excess of £100m.
If West Ham accept the offer for Rice, this figure could escalate to over £200m in a matter of days. Rice has already settled personal terms with Arsenal, expressing his preference for a move to the Emirates this summer.
