November 17, (THEWILL) – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has returned to the Emirates and resumed training after returning early from international duty, putting to rest fears that he is injured.
The Gunners had a pre-agreement for their captain to return to north London ahead of Gabon’s second World Cup qualifier of the break against Egypt on Tuesday. In Friday’s 1-0 triumph over Libya, Aubameyang started and scored the game’s only goal.
He was, however, exempted from playing in what was virtually a dead rubber against Egypt, as Gabon’s qualification chances had already been dashed when other results went against them.
There were fears that the Gabonese captain had taken a knock, but the forward flew back to London on a private aircraft on Wednesday and took part in Arsenal training as the Gunners prepared for their huge match away to Liverpool on Saturday.
Arsenal travel to Anfield with the goal of extending their unbeaten run in all competitions to 11 games, which would be their longest under Mikel Arteta.
Thomas Partey, who did not fly to represent Ghana during the international break due to a groin ailment, and Sead Kolasinac, who was also sidelined on international duty for Bosnia, are two of Arteta’s genuine injury concerns, heading into Anfield.
So far this season, Arsenal’s best striker has been Aubameyang. The forward has seven goals in ten games in all competitions that have helped the Gunners maintain their good form heading into the weekend.
With the nature of his fitness now verified, the 32-year-old will most likely start alongside Alexandre Lacazette up front against Liverpool, with Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe out wide.
