November 15, (THEWILL) – Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios will make his competitive return at the Brisbane International tournament, marking his first significant appearance in professional tennis following an extended absence due to multiple injuries.
The 29-year-old, who reached the Wimbledon final in 2022, intends to participate in the World Tennis League exhibition event in Abu Dhabi from December 19-22, before heading to Brisbane for the tournament scheduled between December 29 and January 5.
“The Brisbane International has always been a great event and I have had some amazing memories there, particularly when I won the event in 2018.
“I am feeling fit and healthy, and I am excited for my return to tennis following some time out of the sport,” he stated
The Brisbane International represents a crucial preparation opportunity for Kyrgios ahead of the Australian Open, which begins on January 12, 2024.
His most recent singles appearance at Melbourne Park occurred in 2022, where he progressed to the second round before falling to Daniil Medvedev.
During his last active period in professional tennis, Kyrgios demonstrated strong form, reaching the Wimbledon final and advancing to the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open in 2022.
However, subsequent knee, foot, and wrist injuries restricted him to participating in just one singles tour match over the following two years.
