November 12, (THEWILL) – A late header from Tomas Soucek completed a thrilling second-half comeback for West Ham as they beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 at the London Stadium on Sunday.
The Hammers had taken an early lead through Lucas Paqueta but fell behind to goals from Taiwo Awoniyi and Anthony Elanga, via an Ola Aina assist before the break. Jarrod Bowen equalised for the hosts shortly after the hour mark, setting up a tense finale.
Both sides had chances as the game opened up, with Soucek twice being denied by superb saves from Forest keeper Odysseas Vlachodimos. However, the Czech midfielder finally found the breakthrough in the 88th minute, rising above the defence to head home James Ward-Prowse’s corner and snatch all three points.
The win ends a poor run of form for West Ham and lifts them to ninth in the English Premier League table. Meanwhile, Forest are 15th as they failed to hold on to their lead and build on their winning display against Aston Villa last weekend.
The match was a thriller for the London Stadium crowd, who saw their side produce a stirring comeback after a lacklustre first-half display. David Moyes will be relieved to get back to winning ways in the EPL, but Forest can take heart from pushing their opponents all the way.
