November 17, (THEWILL) — Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has been added to the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register after completing his prison sentence for sexually assaulting a minor, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has confirmed.
On Friday, actor Yomi Fabiyi claimed that Baba Ijesha had been released because the Court of Appeal had quashed his conviction.
Fabiyi alleged that the appellate court exonerated him, describing the entire case as a charade.
However, on Sunday, Lagos State Attorney-General, Lawal Pedro, SAN, strongly refuted these claims. He called Fabiyi’s statements “false, misleading, and irresponsible”, stressing that Baba Ijesha was never cleared of the sexual assault charges at any stage.
Pedro clarified that the actor’s release was strictly because he had completed his full prison term, not because he was acquitted or found innocent.
In accordance with state law, the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has now added Baba Ijesha’s name to the Sex Offenders Register.
The Attorney-General also warned that the continued spread of false information could result in criminal charges under Lagos law.
