September 23, (THEWILL) – Nice moved to the summit of Ligue 1 on Friday, thanks to Jeremie Boga’s last-gasp winner in a 1-0 victory at AS Monaco.
The Ivorian found the net in the 90th minute to give Nice their third win in six games this season and lift them to 12 points, one ahead of Monaco. The match looked destined to end goalless with henchman Terem Moffi substituted for Evann Guessand in the 78th minute. But, substitute Boga dribbled past several defenders and fired a low shot beyond Monaco goalkeeper, Philipp Kohn.
It was a cruel blow for the hosts, who had two golden chances from the penalty spot earlier in the game. Monaco were awarded a penalty in the 12th minute, but Folarin Balogun’s tame effort was saved by Nice shot-stopper, Marcin Bulka.
Balogun had the chance to make amends when Monaco were given another spot-kick in the 55th minute, but the striker failed to capitalise on the opportunity again as his second effort was also saved on a night to forget. In the end, Boga’s clinical finish was the difference between the teams.
Nice will look to stay top when they host Brest next week at the Allianz Riviera on Sunday, while Monaco travel to face rivals Olympique de Marseille the day before.
