September 22, (THEWILL) – Barcelona have announced that manager, Xavi Hernandez, has signed a new two-year contract extension, keeping him at the Nou Camp until June 2025, with the option for an additional year.
The former Barcelona midfielder took over as manager in November 2021, on a deal that was set to expire at the end of this season. However, after securing the La Liga title last term along with the Spanish Super Cup, the club have moved quickly to insure the 43-year-old’s long-term future.
Since his appointment last season, Xavi has overseen 60 wins from his 96 matches in charge so far. As well as the two trophies won last campaign, he has also guided the team to a strong start this season, as they aim to re-establish themselves as one of Europe’s elite clubs.
The contract extension is a sign of the club’s faith in Xavi’s managerial abilities as he continues rebuilding the squad, promoting youth talent and moving on veteran players. Xavi made over 750 appearances during his stellar playing career at Barcelona, winning multiple major honours.
Both parties will now be hoping he can bring further success as manager over the coming years at the Nou Camp and possibly deliver the coveted UEFA Champions League to La Blaugrana once again.
