SAN FRANCISCO, July 12, (THEWILL) – Popular Nigerian musician, Banky W, has condemned the practice of early marriage in Nigeria and called for marriage age to be raised to 18.
The singer, who is also a music label executive and politician, took to his Twitter page to criticize this practice.
He also condemned perpetrators of the act, who are mostly Muslims, who hide under religion to marry underage girls.
He wrote: “Some Nigerians try to hide behind religion as the reason why they should be allowed to marry children. But if Saudi Arabia – the kingdom, the headquarters i.e. Mecca, can raise the age of Marriage to 18 (because it’s the right thing to do) then Nigeria has no excuse. #Timeup.”
